Last Owl Blog Post for 2019-2020

Dear AmPark Families,

We made it!  Summer vacation is officially upon us.  There are likely many mixed emotions today, relief that remote learning is over, sadness that we didn’t close out with in-person festivities, uncertainty about the future.  Take advantage of our RULER tools and have a family mood meter check-in.  Let’s work to focus our energy on the things we can control this summer and use the strategies we have available to feel like our best selves as much as possible.  You have taken on so many roles this school year and each one of them deserves it’s own vacation time!

In looking forward, we can assure you that we will continue to be in touch with you as developments arise.  This Owl blog platform will continue to be used to share important information.  As a school, we are often finding out information in real time alongside you.  We do our best to turn it around quickly, but you can also stay connected by texting Covid to 692-692, following the news, and checking schools.nyc.gov for updates.

We wish our fifth graders the very best in middle school!  Congratulations AmPark Class of 2020!  Our virtual moving up ceremony was a celebration like no other.  I, for one, spent the duration either in tears or between tears.  It was beautiful to see our students surrounded by their loved ones and mark this special moment with them.  We are so proud of each and every one of you.

At our last PA meeting of the year this Wednesday, we reflected on remote learning and shared hopes and fears for re-opening.  It felt, just as it did at our last meeting, like a much needed space for connecting.  As a leadership team, we were newly inspired and refreshed in hearing how much of this year’s work resonated with families.  Thank you for being cheerleaders for AmPark and for working alongside the school to provide the best possible environment for our little leaders to grow in.

We will likely reach out in the coming weeks to hear more from you about your reopening thoughts.  While the Chancellor’s survey is helpful for large system planning, we will not have the results specific to our community.  It is essential that our school plans reflect your needs.  Health and safety are our top concerns for re-opening, while also keeping social and emotional support at the forefront of planning.

We will be posting supply lists on the blogs in the coming days.  Supplies for next year may look a little different than in years past.  Summer letters with your child’s new teacher(s) will be shared in late August.
Our incoming PK/K virtual orientation will take place in mid-July.
