Owl Blog Post for October 15th, 2021

10/15/2021

Dear Families,

We look forward to connecting with you this week at the Parent Association meeting on Wednesday, October 20th.  At 6 p.m. you will have the opportunity to speak with new staff members Dany (AP), Bob (art) and Teresa (library).  At 6:30 there will be an admin update and then it’s virtual community time with your amazing parent leaders.

Election Day, November 2nd:
The school building is closed for Election Day on Tuesday, November 2nd.  Students will have asynchronous work shared by their teachers in packet form or the google classroom depending on the grade level.  Attendance will be counted and your child’s teacher will share their method for tracking attendance on the 2nd.  We will be distributing devices to families in need before the end of the month.

Please use this form to indicate your need:

Device Request Form

We are so happy to welcome Nurse Suzi back!  Please reach out to her if you need to send in medication or 504 plans: 718-548-3451 ext. 5115

Student Arrival Reminders:
Thank you families for your understanding as we have worked to phase out the paper screeners.  In the interest of being green, reducing the load on our limited office staff and copy supplies, and to speed up entry time we will no longer have paper copies of the screener at the ready beginning on Monday.  We would also like to remind our families that the school day begins at 8:15.  At this point students should be on line outside of their classrooms.  If you would like for your child to be walked from the entrance to the classroom, they need to arrive prior to 8:15.  Our staff members have other teaching responsibilities beginning at 8:15 and will no longer be available to support late arrival.  Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation.

Beginning on Monday, we will no longer have paper copies of the Health Screening at the arrival tables and ask again that all families please complete screenings digitally whenever possible.  If it is not possible, please let arrival staff know and we will work to accommodate your family with copies that you can complete at home and bring in.  If you would like to print copies at home, please find the link here: https://infohub.nyced.org/docs/default-source/default-document-library/doe-dece-health-screening-questionnaire_english.pdf

AmPark Library - We have a library!!

Please see the letter below from our wonderful Librarian, Teresa:

Dear AmPark Families,

We are so excited to begin library classes at AmPark! Most classes have met at least once, and we will soon begin checking out books for the students to take home.
  1. Check with your child or their teacher for the class library day. Most classes meet once a week.
  1. Book check-out is for 2 weeks, but books may be returned to school any time before that to exchange for a new one on library day.
  1. Please help your child to take good care of our beautiful library books: no food or drinks near library books, keep library books in backpacks or a safe place when not reading, and encourage your child to use a bookmark to hold a place rather than leaving books open.
  1. You can search for books in the AmPark Library by using this link: AmPark School Library Catalog Just click on the magnifying glass to search by title, author, or topic.
  1. All AmPark library books have a barcode in the upper right corner of the back cover which says “Ampark School Library,” as shown below.
