Owl Blog Post for September 30th, 2022

The AmPark Pumpkin Blaze & March of Dimes, March for Babies Costume Parade  is back on Monday, October 31st!
Costume Parade and Pumpkin Decorating
AmPark is continuing our tradition of raising money to support the March of Dimes with our annual WonderWalk.  This year’s event will take place on Monday, October 31st.  The students will exit the building at 8:45 through the main entrance, walk around the block, and re-enter the building through our main entrance.  You are welcomed and encouraged to line the streets to support them as they share their signs promoting awareness for the March of Dimes!

Please use our AmPark Team Page for March of Dimes, March for Babies donations.

Back by popular demand this year, will be the addition of our own Pumpkin Blaze at the Hillman Entrance!  Our goal is that each class will have several pumpkins to decorate, though last year the dedication and generosity of our PA far exceeded that hope.  Please speak with your child’s teacher if you are willing to donate pumpkins for decorating by Monday, October 24th and thank you!

Dear Parent,
Please join the fight for the health of all moms and babies by supporting your child’s participation in March of Dimes’ WonderWalk fundraising event.

For decades, schools conducted WonderWalk in person with a group mini walk around school grounds, often on Halloween.  The past 2 years we included a virtual option to fundraise and remains open to create fundraising options for families.  It is a fun way for children to get involved, learn the spirit of volunteerism and helping others.

We invite you to join the child’s school’s WonderWalk team on the March for Babies online school fundraising page at www.marchforbabies.org/team/Ampark

Begin by clicking JOIN and create your child’s online fundraising page under the school’s team, shown above. You and your child can use that page to fundraise. Your family is encouraged to start fundraising as soon as today and you can continue through November 30th.

For over 80 years, dating back to the pioneering of a life-saving vaccine for polio, March of Dimes has always risen to face daunting challenges. By joining WonderWalk you are supporting March of Dimes’ efforts to end preventable maternal death and morbidity, premature birth and increase health equity. You are stepping up during this public health crisis, at a time when it is still urgently needed. Thanks to volunteers like you, March of Dimes can develop new programs and resources to help families during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.

In addition to the school fundraiser event this fall, some fun virtual fundraising ideas families can try at home with parental supervision include:
  • Downloading and using the fundraising tools on our March for Babies App to share your child’s personal online fundraising page that you created under your school’s team on MarchforBabies.org
  • Hosting a Purple Day in honor of Prematurity Awareness Month (November) or World Prematurity Day (November 17) at home via Zoom or other social media platforms. Participants can dress up in purple and have fun
  • Hosting a sing-a-thon or a Hula Hoop-a-thon. Ask people to sponsor you with a donation to your personal fundraising page

Thank you for stepping up during this challenging time, and most especially for your support and generosity, which helps March of Dimes end preventable premature birth and infant and maternal mortality. The cause for nearly half of all premature births is unknown. It can happen to any family.

Sincerely,
Ellen Sanfilippo

Dear AmPark Families,

The AmPark Library is open!

  1. Check with your child or their teacher for the class library day. Classes K-5 meet once or twice a week.

  1. Book check-out is for 1 week. Please send library books back to school on or before the class library day. We will begin check-outs for grades 1-5 next week. Kindergarten classes read books in the library and learn book care skills but do not check out books to take home.

  1. Please help your child to take good care of our beautiful library books: no food or drinks near library books, keep library books in backpacks or a safe place when not reading, and encourage your child to use a bookmark to hold a place rather than leaving books open.

  1. You may search for books in the AmPark Library by using this link: AmPark School Library Catalog

  1. All AmPark library books have a barcode in the upper right corner of the back cover which says “AmPark School Library,” as shown here.

You may contact me directly at tmulvihill@schools.nyc.gov  with any questions, ideas, or concerns.

    Happy Reading!
    Teresa
