Owl Blog Post for May 16th

5/16/2025

Good Evening AmPark Families,

We want to say a HUGE thank you to our amazing and deeply dedicated AmPark PA for another beautiful and hugely successful Scholastic Book Fair!  It's been three days of book buzz as our Owls happily visited the Fair and selected what will hopefully be new favorite books.  We appreciate all of our super-parents for your time and dedication to making it happen!

This week our fantastic 5th graders tackled the NYS Science Test and we are so proud of all of their hard work.  With this season of testing nearly fully behind us (one more in the form of the ELA Field Test for 5th grade, on May 28th) we are so looking forward to the many celebrations, trips, community events, and general joy in the weeks ahead.

Below, please find announcements and reminders of exciting events to come in May and the beginning of June.  Also, be on the look out for information coming home about AmPark's upcoming Field Day (June 2nd) that's just a day ahead of Career Day (June 3rd)!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Career Day
When: June 3rd from 8:45 to 10:45
Where: AmPark Neighborhood School

Hello AmPark Families,

We have exciting news! We are happy to announce that Career Day 2025 is officially set for June 3, 2025. Every year, Career Day has been an enormous success, and one reason is that we have many wonderful parent volunteers! We would love for AmPark parents to volunteer between 8:45 am and 10:45 am at the school to present their careers to the students.  Parents can volunteer to show the entire time or for part of it. Once I receive your name, contact information, and the time you are available to volunteer, I will send you the day's schedule once it is finalized. There are tips for the presenters listed below for your reference.

We've come up with a few careers we'd like to see, but of course, all careers are welcome! Please email me at [email protected] with the information bolded below, if you or someone you know can volunteer. Hoping to hear from some of you soon!

Tips for Career Day Presenters
(Speaking to Students about Your Career)

Here are some suggestions to help make your Career Day presentations a success.
Each career and industry is unique, so plan what works for you and your area of expertise.  Keep in mind that your audience is K-5th grade students.

For many of them, this is their first introduction to the professional world beyond the classroom.  Engaging students in an activity like brainstorming or a case study, sharing anecdotes and asking them questions makes it fun for you and them.

Please allow time at the end of your presentation for students to ask questions.

Consider the following talking points:
  • Briefly introduce yourself (schools, internships, first jobs, etc.).
  • Share obstacles you encountered and overcame, interesting turns, and life situations you’ve encountered.
  • Explain how your work relates to classes they might be taking in school,l such as math, science, technology courses, ELA etc.
  • Share any helpful advice that you wish you had learned or things you did in school to be more prepared for your career.
  • Share examples of your daily routine that incorporate skills they are learning, such as communication, critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, writing, etc.
  • Explain the important aspects of your work and how they relate to other jobs within the organization.
  • Talk about your career path and why you chose to pursue it or how you ended up where you are.
  • Explain what you like best/least about your job and/or career field.
  • What are your next steps and/or goals for your own career?
Thank you so much for being part of  AmPark’s Career Day!
