Since 2013!!, WITS has been working together, alongside staff members, parents and caregivers to further lift up health and wellness at AmPark! As WITS continues to grow, and the students we teach grow along with us, it is both a comfort and honor to be able to come back to AmPark year after year. This year we have three new recipes that we will make with students during WITS Labs, our seasonal culinary and nutrition education classes, in November, January and April. We have plans to spend time on adult engagement, holding workshops for the parents and caregivers of the community. Additionally, we continue to have a strong fitness program and our coaches will collaborate with students and educators to facilitate movement and mindfulness breaks in classrooms and PE using our partnership with EXOS. Take a peek at our website for more info on the program and our always delicious, simple and affordable recipes. https://www.wellnessintheschools.org AmPark's students will all be chefs from November 13th-15th when we dive into making Apple Citrus Pico De Gallo in the K Cafe with WITS Chef Victoria! It was wonderful to see so many of you and share so much good news from AmPark. In addition to classroom presentations from our amazing teachers with overviews of the year ahead, many of your stopped in to sing, dance, and yoga with Josh & Caitlin and hear from our guidance staff, our Parent Association Executive Board, as well as our AmPark Administrative Team. Our Principal, Ms. Meena, proudly shared that our AmPark Owls absolutely rocked the ELA and math exams last year, with overall scores that rank AmPark Neighborhood School #4 in ELA and #2 in Math in District 10! Whooooo's proud of these brilliant and hardworking Owls? We most certainly are!! Speaking of pride in our AmPark Owl's accomplishments, during his presentation, our music teacher, Josh, shared a video of our 4th graders bringing the house down on the big stage at the Bronx Borough Arts Festival this past June. We are so, so proud of this performance and the brilliant, gorgeous, and incredible talent that was on display for all of the Bronx and beyond. Please take a look at our resident rockstars in action here: Bronx BAF 2024 AmPark's Orff & Vocal Ensemble In more musical joy news, Josh also shared links to the musical mathematical magic that are his Skip's Counting Jams. If they're not already, your Owls will be coming home and singing them soon, so please check out these amazing and now adorably animated songs that support mathematical fluency as well as toe tapping and shoulder shaking on Josh's YouTube Channel here: Skip's Counting Jams!

The smiles on our Owls' faces have been as beautiful as this early fall weather outside and we are so glad to have them back at AmPark! While there were some first day tears from our newest little ones, they were soon dry and replaced by joyful hugs by the end of the day. We're very excited to welcome you all back IN PERSON for our Back to School Curriculum Night next Thursday! Please see the flyer below (and thank you PA super moms for making it : )! Also linked here please find our Parent Handbook for the 2024-2025 School Year. In this handbook you'll find so much important information from key school dates to AmPark's policies and practices. We're lifting up Ms. Meena's Principal's Message and a letter from our Parent Coordinator, Elvira below here, which you'll find in the opening pages of the Handbook as well. Hope to see you all next week on Thursday! Principal’s Message, From Principal Meena Lildharrie Dear AmPark Families, I hope you had a wonderful summer with your family and friends and that you are filled with excitement for the upcoming school year. First and foremost, let me express my gratitude for entrusting your children's education to our devoted team of educators. It is a responsibility we take very seriously, and we are dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for each and every student. As we embark on this journey together, I want to assure you that I am fully committed to fostering a collaborative partnership between the school and parents. Open communication and transparency are vital to our success, and I encourage you to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher first, with any questions, concerns, or suggestions you may have throughout the year. Together, we can create an educational experience that meets the individual needs and interests of your child. I am proud that our team of teachers and support staff are both experienced and passionate about education. They possess a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and dedication that will help guide your child along their educational journey. Rest assured that they are committed to not only academic excellence but also the social and emotional well-being of our students. Furthermore, I want to emphasize the importance of parental involvement in a child's education. Research has consistently shown that strong partnerships between home and school positively impact student achievement. I invite you to join us in various school activities, meetings, and events, as your contributions are invaluable to maintaining a thriving school community. In the coming weeks, you can expect to receive further correspondence with important dates, upcoming events, and updates regarding our school's operations. We strive to keep you informed and involved, so please keep an eye out for these communications. Once again, welcome back to school. Together, we will navigate the challenges ahead and create a nurturing and enriching environment for our students. I look forward to a successful and memorable academic year filled with growth, achievement, and meaningful connections. With much appreciation, Meena Lildharrie, Principal Parent Coordinator’s Message, From PC Elvira De Jesus Dear Parents & Guardians, Welcome to the 2024 - 2025 school year! This school year promises to be an exciting one! There will be many family events and we hope you will be able join the AmPark Neighborhood School Family in all the fun! You are your child's first teacher and it's important for you to be involved and stay informed. I am here to help you keep informed and to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have. There are two primary ways of staying informed: Setting up our AmPark Owl Blog and the New York City Student Account (NYCSA). The Owl Blog sends out weekly or monthly information with important dates, events, and announcements. To sign up please go to http://www.amparkneighborhoodschool.org/ and on the top of the page you will be able to add your email to get notifications. The NYSCA account is important because you will be able to view your child's report card, transportation IEP, attendance, enrollment, and other relevant information that you might need for tax purposes, and update your contact information. If you need help creating it please let me know! You may get in touch with me by email at [email protected] or by phone at (401)702-7734. I am looking forward to our continued collaboration in supporting our children. BE INVOLVED! STAY INFORMED! Sincerely, Elvira De Jesus Parent Coordinator Happy First Friday of Summer AmPark Family! Just reaching out with a short post to share a few fabulous things as we head off for some serious summer... We had such a lovely opening of the doors to our newest AmPark families today, by way of our New Families Orientation Session. Our newest Owls read "In My Heart" with Ms. Melissa Valerio and Ms. Donya and drew the things in their hearts as they enter this next exciting chapter in their lives. Francisco, Elvira, Sandra and I got to greet all of their lovely parents and tour the school. Thank you so much to Tina & Elora for representing the AmPark PA today and all that you do to support everything Ampark. As we shared with our new families, we are actively enrolling students in 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades throughout the summer, so please spread the good word about AmPark if you know anyone who might be looking for a new and wonderful school community. They are welcomed to reach out to Elvira, Bonnie, & Meena throughout the summer months for more information. Below, please find information about a FREE soccer league being offered by our good friends at Asphalt Green. I know a few of our Owls are signed up already and we hope that it's a really fun way to get outside and play with the awesome coaches there. You might even spot our own Coach Craig there this summer! : ) If you're looking for a cool "AmPark teachers are FAMOUS!" moment, you can catch our very own Ms. Tahese (with some familiar Owl student faces) on Let's Learn on Channel 13 this summer! On the dates below, Ms. Tahese will be featured in Let's Learn Lessons at 11am EST. Outside of the WNET viewing area, check local PBS stations schedules for air dates. All episodes, as well as discrete segments, will also be on the website, letslearn.org, available to stream on the broadcast dates listed above. If that's not enough AmPark this summer, you can always check in with an adorable cartoon Josh (just look at him up there!) on his Skip's Counting Jams YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@SkipsCountingJams.
