Special Announcement to Clap Out for our Healthcare providers and ALL essential workers: On Friday, March 27th, a #ClapBecauseWeCare initiative will launch with a two-minute clap that you can participate in from wherever you are in the city. It will be in celebration and appreciation of all essential workers. Here's the plan, per a release: Following successful activations in Europe, we wanted to come together to clap and celebrate for all the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, grocery store workers, restaurant workers, truck drivers, sanitation workers, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and whoever else deserves a round of applause for their continued, essential work. To show our gratitude, we are asking people to join us on Friday, March 27th at 7pm EST for a two-minute round of applause from your front doors, stoops, windows, balconies, roofs, living rooms, gardens, etc. From wherever you may be at a safe social distance. Dear Families, Thank you so much for all of your efforts and collaboration during this first week of Remote Learning. We have missed seeing your faces in our AmPark hallways, but have loved getting to connect with so many of you in new ways. Our staff members have been hard at work making the experiences for the students even better for next week based upon your feedback. We acknowledge how full your plates are and monitoring your child’s learning in this way can be a challenge. We send you our deepest appreciation for the ways in which you have partnered with us and encourage you to reach out should you need anything. The best thing for our students right now are those feelings of security and love. The learning will come once that has been established. Without taking anything away from growing knowledge, when our children look back on this time they will remember their feelings more than the skills they learned and it is our intention is to continue to provide them with a supportive and nurturing community. If your child needs additional support in coping with the stresses of these days, please reach out to our school social worker Mike Molloy at [email protected]. In an effort to further support our families, we have set up a Google Voice number that will be staffed from 9am – 5pm Monday through Friday. The number is (914) 246 – 0720. You can call this number for the same reasons that you would call our general office AmPark line. While we won’t be able to directly connect you with a requested individual, we will be able to take messages for staff members, as well as help with frequently asked questions. Please know that we are launching this system, powered through Google Voice, on Monday morning for the first time, so please bear with us should there be any challenges. We hope to have everything streamlined and smooth by 11am on Monday! Thank you all. While the statewide PAUSE was necessary for our safety, we understand that the delay in getting technology has left some families waiting. Guidance has come in from our central offices that devices will be set up for mailing in the coming week. We will do our best to keep you informed as this process is rolled out. Please see additional information technology this message from the Chancellor’s Office: Remote Learning Device Request Form and Responses: Please continue to encourage families who still need devices, particularly those who do not have access to an internet-connected device at home, to complete the Remote Learning Device Request Form or call 718-935-5100, and choose option 5 to request a device, which will be distributed on a rolling basis. Schools may assist families in filling out the Remote Learning Device Request form to ensure that we are capturing student need for devices across the DOE. When possible, staff members should walk families through the form over the phone and have them submit it themselves. Please ensure that if a staff member is filling out a survey on behalf of a parent/guardian who does not have digital access, they are working directly with the parent/guardian to do so. This multilingual flyer will also help to promote the survey to all members of your school community. For more information about the form, see here. Join us for a day of school spirit on Monday, March 30th. Wear your best AmPark swag or our school colors of purple and grey. Think about how you might show some additional Owl spirit through your camera lens by adding a funny hat or some face paint! We loved seeing so many participants in our live lunch! We will be doing three smaller live lunches next week. We look forward to seeing you there!
