 Dear AmPark Families, December brought with it a proper blast of winter storm weather and we weathered the storm together like New Yorkers do! Thank you to all of you who came out and joined us for a School Sing on Monday morning, in spite of some very icy and snowy conditions. It was a warm and wonderful way to spend our first December Sing as a whole community on a day where many were slowed due to difficult travel conditions. Having our school community come together through that challenge was a beautiful and very memorable first day back for our Principal Kelly! This month’s Book of the Month is Say Something! by Peter Reynolds. In this gorgeously illustrated picture book, Reynolds reminds us that the world needs to hear every voice, including YOUR voice and that if you have a brilliant idea… say something! If you see an injustice… say something! This connects to The Leader in Me Habit #3: Put first things first, because the most important thing we can do is to follow our moral compasses and share those ideas that we have that make this world a kinder, gentler place for all. While many of you joined us on Monday for Sing, we hope that you’ll join us one more time to sing holiday favorites all together for the 2019 Festival of Lights! For families new to AmPark, the Festival of Lights is one last chance for us all to join together in song before our year closes out. This year’s celebration will be held on December 20th. Please be aware that while the DOE originally had December 23rd as an instructional day, that has been amended and our Winter Recess will begin on the 21st; making the 20th our last day together until January 2020! On a quick personal note from Bonnie, I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for holding up AmPark and our community while our Kelly has been on leave. We could not have done it without your support, and the hard work of our amazing PA. For those of you who have come to know and love our interim AP, Francisco De La Cruz, he will remain with us at AmPark through the coming month of December (although we truly wish we could keep him in the AmPark Family for always). A Note From Our Parent Coordinator: Hello Ampark Families! I am wishing you all a very happy holiday filled with joy and laughter! Some friendly reminders: December 18, there will be a parent workshop on Healthy Eating & Snacking with Chef Marion & Chef Ricardo before our General PA Meeting at 5:30. On December 17 we have our Wellness committee meeting at 8:30 am in the K-Café! Roads to Success Holiday Gala will be December 19th from 5:30pm- 7:30pm. If you have not submitted your School Lunch form, please follow up with Sandra or myself as soon as you’re able! Thank for all the warm welcomes and I can truly say that going into this New Year I am honored to be apart of the Ampark community! On a health related note, there seem to be some plant fairies are here at AmPark! Bonnie & Wellness Supermom Audrey, have been trying to build up our beautiful greenery and window boxes and we’re not sure who’s been quietly adding to the windowsills, but whoever you are… THANK YOU! The plants are looking gorgeous and we hope they’ll keep coming. It’s such a lovely gift that provides fresh air and even more beauty to our lovely AmPark.
