Happy Friday AmPark Families,

Thank you so much to all of the families who came out to cheer on your brilliant singers, artists, and dancers last night at AmPark's Annual Spring Concert!  What absolute STARS our AmPark Owls are!  The vocal performances and our 5th grade hip hop dancers were all out of this world and we are so proud of each one of them for boldly sharing their talents.  Shine on Owls!!  Thank you so much to the incomparable force of nature and music that is Josh Joffee, and to all of the parents and staff who helped to get this beautiful event together for all.  Special thank yous to Manuel, aka Gian's dad, for the amazing showcase of our 4th graders STEAM projects, and to Craig for creating AmPark's first true dance troop, and to DJ Zach for making sure that our Owls sounded clear and proud!

Thank you also to those members of our AmPark community who joined us for our first in person Career Day in 3 years!  This morning our students got to hear about so many exciting careers from parents and family members of our staff and students alike.  We are grateful to all of your who lent your time and personal stories, inspiring our Owls to think about the many things that they may want to pursue someday.

Please be reminded that we have Monday off from school in recognition of Juneteenth.  "Juneteenth, a combination of the words “June” and “nineteenth,” commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers in Galveston, Texas, delivered news of freedom to enslaved Black people. It is considered the end of slavery in the United States. Approximately 250,000 African Americans who had been enslaved were informed that the Civil War had ended and were proclaimed legally free.  President Joe Biden signed Juneteenth into law as a federal holiday in 2021, making it the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Day in 1983. Consequently, federal employers are required to provide the date as a paid holiday to their employees, and other states have followed suit.
Let's take this day to stand in solidarity with our Black and African American employees in celebrating Juneteenth – the day “all” Americans became free.

“For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” ― Nelson Mandela"  - NYC Public Schools Division of Human Resources

To all of our families and AmPark super dads, we also wish you a beautiful Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day and Juneteenth, AmPark!
