Juneteenth commemorates a declaration of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas in 1865, and each year it serves both as a celebration of freedom and an opportunity to recommit to the fight for racial justice in all aspects of American life. Yesterday, President Biden signed a bill establishing June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is now the 11th federal holiday, the first since Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and was approved with overwhelming support in Congress. All school and NYCDOE issued devices must be returned to the school building before the end of the month. Families are welcome to drop off during school hours next week or during the open houses on June 29th and 30th between 9 and 2. Club Confidence is a free after-school program with the mission of empowering young girls within a pro-girl environment. Club Confidence was founded in response to the reduction of after school programs within public schools during the pandemic. In the fall of 2020, Lara Berliner and Isabella Davidman, two high school students at Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School in Manhattan, co-founded Club Confidence and began offering an online platform for young girls where participants could learn and benefit from their strong academic backgrounds, while also giving them a community to socialize and connect with others. Club Confidence offers courses across a variety of disciplines including Creative Writing, Essay Writing, Public Speaking, Standardized Test Prep, Advanced Math Puzzles, STEM Lab, Music Theory, etc. Club Confidence currently has over 25 volunteers and affiliations with nearly 20 elementary and middle schools. Our programs are designed to accommodate these unprecedented times and are operating fully remotely on Zoom. Club Confidence will be offering six-week programs this summer.
