Dear Families, Your children have been the light for all of us at AmPark throughout this unusual year. Thank you for your love, support, and partnership. We look forward to brighter days in 2021 and wish you time for rest, celebration, and memory making during the school recess. There are a few events early in the new year that we would like to share in advance so that you can mark up those brand new calendars! K/1 Coffee and Conversations Join admin, teachers, and fellow parents for a small group coffee chat about early childhood virtual learning. We invite you to think about what has gone well in the fall and what your hopes are for the new year. Choose from: Morning Sessions: January 6th or 13th from 8:15 - 8:45 Afternoon Sessions: January 7th or 14th from 2:00 - 2:30 New Family Virtual Tour For all prospective AmPark Families, please feel welcomed to join us for an AmPark "Open House" information session. While we wish we could invite you into the actual brick and mortar AmPark school to see our amazing students and teachers in action, we will do our best to share information about AmPark with you all to help inform your decisions about Kindergarten and the AmPark community. Families can make their own charters, just as students do in their classrooms. The new year is the perfect time to reflect and plan forward about how each family member wants to feel. The indoor nature of winter months as well as the on-going stresses of the pandemic present the opportunity to reconnect with intention and love. Come as a family for this interactive workshop. January 13th at 6:30 p.m. Zoom info to follow. MIddle School Dear fifth grade families, As we receive updated directives from the NYC Department of Education, we are reaching out to families in our feeder elementary schools to provide them some information, as best as we know it at this time, for the Middle School Application process. As you should already know, the application process is conducted online, using your My Student account. Details for each My Student account is provided to families directly from the DOE. The process opens the week of January 11th, 2021, and concludes the week of February 8th. If you need assistance with your code or the application process, you should be in touch with your current guidance counselor. The application process will still give priority admission to students zoned to RKA. If you reside within our zoned catchment, and RKA is listed at the top of your application, this should ensure admission. Likewise, the process of students zoned to MS/HS 368 (In-Tech Academy) applying for a limited number of seats through the "lottery" process, remains in place. Following the Chancellor's directive, we will not be screening for an Honors program for the 2021-2022 school year. Instead, we will be offering one rigorous course of study for all our middle schoolers, which will culminate in the eighth grade with all students taking Regents-level Algebra and Living Environment, as well as the Spanish proficiency exam. Of course, we have been unable to conduct our usual schedule of in-person middle school tours and our parent informational meeting this year. In place of this, we will soon be posting a virtual open house to our school website www.rka141.org. We have already posted some information for you on our MS/HS Applications page. https://www.rka141.org/ms-and-hs-applications.html. We will also be holding information sessions on Zoom for prospective families in our zone (Zoom info is below) and participating in the District's Middle School Fair. We will be holding them on several dates for your convenience (the presentations are all the same; it is only necessary to attend one session): January 7th, 2021 - 6:00 PM January 12th, 2021 - 10:00 AM January 20th, 2021 - 6:00 PM Each session will include a video and a Q&A portion. We invite parents and students to submit their questions in advance of the meeting by using this link. Middle school offers will arrive to families through the My Students accounts in the Spring. While we cannot meet in person at this time, we do look forward to meeting you virtually. If you have any question, please reach out to our Parent Coordinator, Julie Prince, at [email protected].
