Dear Families, We wish you a weekend full of sunshine and family. Spring is springing and hearing the birds chirping and clang of the bat at the park will hopefully help us to leave some of the winter blues behind. We are in the theme of self-care this month, and sincerely hope that each member of our community has been able to find some these past few weeks. Our Parent Association Executive Board helps our school administration with an endless amount of things, from self-care gifts to teachers to brainstorming picture days resources to supporting fellow families, the list can go on and on, truly. This past Monday they reminded us that despite there being difficult days, there is always something to celebrate at AmPark. In the spirit of “Some Good News,” we would like to share what was also shared at Wednesday’s PA meeting and start the trend weekly of outlining specific celebrations: Some Good News at AmPark!

From Maria Correa & the Bronx Strong Team on Celebrating New NYC Schools Chancellor Meisha Ross-Porter! As our Executive Superintendent will soon be transitioning into the position of NYC Chancellor, we want to acknowledge her as a champion of children in the Bronx and recognize that there is no loss, as we've gained an advocate for ALL children citywide and beyond. Chancellor Ross-Porter has dedicated her life to serving the Bronx, and we want to celebrate her in a way that reflects her dedication to the children and families of our borough with the same level of support and encouragement that she gives each and every day. Together, as one "Bronx Family", the Borough’s FLC’s and FSC’s have come together to ensure that our collective excitement and appreciation for Chancellor Porter’s success is celebrated by our entire "Bronx Family" in a personal and heartfelt way. We would like to collect video clips from anyone who is interested in sharing an uplifting message for our new Chancellor. The clips from our Bronx Districts will be combined into one montage and forwarded to Chancellor Porter. We are seeking your video of no more than 30 seconds by Friday, March 12, 2021. As an added opportunity and bonus, we are also hoping to play this collage of videos on BronxEdulution, the 1-hour per day educational program that was started during Chancellor Ross’s tenure as Executive Superintendent of The Bronx in collaboration with BronxNet. Please feel free to ask your staff members and families if they would like to participate in honoring our Chancellor Meisha Ross-Porter. Below is the one-drive link that will be used to upload your videos/content. At the end of March 2020, a pause was placed on water testing by New York State due to COVID affecting school operations. Now that schools have begun to resume in person learning, the DOE will resume water testing only in buildings that are open. If your building is currently closed, we will wait until it re-opens to perform water testing. Families and staff should rest assured that New York City drinking water is safe and of the highest quality in the world. New York City’s water meets or exceeds all Federal and State standards. In addition, the DOE works with other City agencies to ensure there is safe drinking water in schools. The safety and well-being of students and staff is our highest priority. Please visit https://www.schools.nyc.gov/about-us/reports/water-safety Water Safety - web Remediation Summary 2017-2018. At the start of the 2018–2019 school year, we shared an update of the remediation progress from the 2016–2017 round of testing. www.schools.nyc.gov to learn more about the robust protocol we use to ensure the safety of drinking water in each and every school.
