Happy Friday AmPark Families, As spring has sprung around us, we want to share a few exciting updates this week with you all. First, thank you to everyone for supporting your children in sharing their most beloved books for this Fun Friday's Bring Your Favorite Book Day! The excitement that students were sharing their books with was palpable and I personally left with a new list of must reads! This magical theme will be one we must redo just for the sheer literary love of it! (Reminder that next week we'll be welcoming neon colors and big hair for 80s day!) In arts news, we have been gifted another amazing grant with Lehman College Art Gallery! Brilliant and multi-talented gallery artist, Tijay Mohammad, who has been no stranger at AmPark as he has led the residencies that allowed our current 5th graders to collaboratively create the mural on the wall of our "glass room" entrance last year, as well as 3D sculptures with our 3rd and 5th graders this year, is coming our way to make more art magic! Starting next week, our 1st and 4th graders will use the K Cafe as a pop up art studio as Tijay leads them in a 5 week long painting residency using the mediums of both tempura and water color paints. We're so excited to see what our Owl artists create! Speaking of owls, for our 2nd graders about to embark on our beloved Bird Study, For the Birds, from NYC Audubon, has already begun sending bird guides our way! And get your binoculars ready, because for our upper grade bird enthusiasts, we are thrilled to announce that NYC Audubon will be extending the Feathered Friends After School Birding Club to AmPark this spring! This program is open to our 4th & 5th graders who, if interested, will receive applications from Bonnie in the coming weeks, and, once they've applied, join Caitlin and Audubon's volunteer ornithologists to go on bird walks in beautiful Van Cortlandt Park. The first outing will be on April 26th! Our AmPark Spelling Bees will be held at the classroom level in the coming week with the finals during our SEL assemblies on April 3rd and 4th! We have over 60 3rd-5th grade students who have bravely put their hats in the ring to participate in this academic challenge and we're cheering for them all! Finally, a request to families to please help us maintain a safe dismissal by picking students up promptly at 2:35 from their designated exits. Also, while we completely understand that the need sometimes arises to pick a child up early, we ask that these requests not be made any later than 2:00, as it poses a challenge to all staff to relay messages and safely transport students as we prepare for dismissal, bussing, after school activities, and the close of the school day. Thank you so much for your support and understanding. Wishing all a wonderful weekend! NYC School Survey Reminder
