AmPark Owl Blog

Blog Post for May 19th

5/9/2023

It has been a fun filled and busy week here at AmPark!  We start with a shout out to all of our amazing 2nd & 3rd Grade Owl Athletes who showed up and showed out for the first ever AmPark basketball playoff game!  They were cheered on throughout the game by not only their families and peers but also AmPark's wonderful 5th Grade Cheerleaders!  Here's a shot of the action from Bonnie's owl's nest perch of an office view : ). Congratulations to all of our student athletes, and to coaches Craig, Darius, & Elvira for making magic happen with them!

A huge congratulations to all of our students who participated in AmPark's Science Fair this week!  The projects were so thoughtful and creative that our team of judges had quite a time deliberating on the winners.  Ultimately, there were so many amazing projects that we broke the entrants into grade bands of PK-2 and 3-5.  We announced the winners this week and are proud to share them with you here!

For PK-2nd Grade:
1st Place - Ms. Zoe & Ms. Audriana's PK Class with: "Do All Plants Need Soil?"
2nd Place - Ms. Sasha & Mr. Joe's Classes with: "Will it Grow?"
3rd Place - Ms. Meagan & Ms. Priya's Class with: "How is Sound Made?"

For 3-5:
1st Place (and overall winner) - Ms. Hanade, Ms. Donya, & Ms. Wandiza's 5th grade class project: "Grow, Grow, & GOOOOO!"
2nd Place - 502 Student Project by Sawyer & Brian: "Glow Stick Science"
3rd Place - 501 Student Project by Kenny, Semere, & David: "Sandwich Bag Endurance Test"

Our 5th grade overall winning project is headed to InTech Academy tomorrow, Saturday May 20th, for the District 10 Science Fair!  We are so proud of our students and wish our scientists much more than luck as they present their brilliance to the judges tomorrow.

Are you thinking, I would love to cheer them on?  Well you can!  Please see the information for the D10 Science Fair below.  Go for the projects and stay to hear our AMAZING AmPark Owls singing in the District 10 Chorus as a special part of this celebration!

Finally, in this last bit of our springtime together, AmPark is THRILLED to offer even more Arts & Enrichment Programming!

We've had an overwhelming response to our new offering for K & 1st grade students to participate in an after-school program with New York Historical Society!  The program will run from dismissal until 4:30 on Wednesdays & Thursdays from next week through the end of the year.

We are also welcoming one more painting residency with Lehman College Art Gallery for our Kindergarten and 2nd grade students! Artist Celeste Morton began her first sessions of this watercolor painting residency just this week.  We cannot wait to see what our young artists create!
