A Note from Principal Kelly: Hello Families, My little boy Malachy has been working through some health challenges the past few months. At a monitoring visit, the decision was made to admit him to the Children’s Hospital and while he is thankfully doing much better, further follow up care is needed at this time. Over the past few months I have done my best to balance the demands of principaling through a pandemic and of being a new mom. However, because of the events of this past week my family now needs all of my focus. Working every day of the summer to prepare for reopening has turned out to be a mixed blessing, as I will be taking my annual leave days this month to ensure that Malachy is on the right track. I have nothing but confidence in the leadership of our outstanding Assistant Principal Bonnie, in the dedication of our staff, and in the overall strength of our community and look forward to returning to you all soon. Be well, Kelly From Our Parent Coordinator Niomi: Hello AmPark Families! Our PA/PTA Elections are coming up Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 6:30pm. First Round of On-Site COVID 19 Testing for Students & Staff On Wednesday of last week, we had our first round of COVID-19 testing here at AmPark. We are very happy to report that it went smoothly overall, and that both our students and staff were very brave. Lab technicians from SOMOS Community Care set up in one of our unused classroom spaces and members of AmPark’s Building Response Team, Caitlin, Ana, Andrea, Niomi, Bernadette, and Bonnie, all cheered on both students and staff who courageously stepped in for testing. For families who have not yet opted in to test, as a school community we strongly encourage you to do so. This is a wonderful opportunity to regularly assess the health and wellness of our school and to ensure that we are monitoring the health of all. If you have not done so, please find the COVID 19 Testing Consent Form here. Regarding results, below is the letter that was backpacked home with any students who were tested... COVID-19 Test Results: Today your child was tested for COVID-19 by a medical professional from SOMOS Community Care. What’s happens next? We will contact you by phone with your results. The majority of test results will come back in about 48 hours. If your child has COVID-19: 1. Someone from SOMOS Community Care will call you between the hours of 7AM-8PM to let you know that your child has COVID-19 and will share additional information. 2. You will also receive a call from NYC Test & Trace Corps, who will offer resources and recommendations. They will help you with what you may need to be able to safely stay at home. If you do not receive an e-mail or phone call from SOMOS Community Care within the next 2-3 days, please contact SOMOS at 833-SOMOSNY or visit somosny.com. If you have any other questions, please visit www.schools.nyc.gov/covidtesting or call 311. Learning Bridges for AmPark We are glad to announce that AmPark has been officially paired with a Learning Bridges site located at the Child Development Center of the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center, located at 3350 Bailey Avenue, Bronx, NY, 10463.
