Owl Blog Post for January 12th, 2024

1/9/2024

Dear AmPark Families,

On Monday, January 15th, there is no school in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Did you know that Martin Luther King Day is a unique federal holiday, because it is the only one officially designated as a National Day of Service?  In our reflections on Dr. King and his immeasurable impact on the world, we encourage all of our students and families to engage in service to our community and to one another as we strive to continue his work for peace and social justice for all.  Looking for a few good Dr. King family reads?  Please check out some of the beautiful texts linked here: Picture Books & Children's Books on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Next week, in preparation for this year's state exams being administered as computer based testing (CBT), our 3rd-5th grade classes will be engaging in a simulation of the ELA exam using their student devices.  On Friday, students will experience getting logged in for the first time, and answering questions using the secure testing browser format.  It is our hope that this helps students to feel more ready to grapple with the state exams that are to come later in the spring.  Please know that this is only a simulation, and students will not test for more than a few questions, over the course of one period.  There will be no scoring of this trial exam and no reports shared with the school.  We will repeat this practice with a simulation of the math exam, on Friday January 26th.

Finally, please be welcomed to come on by for Tea with Principal Meena on Thursday January 18th at 8:30 am!

Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend.
