Owl Blog Post for June 2nd, 2023

6/2/2023

,Happy Friday AmPark Families!

Today, only the weather itself was as hot as the competition in the 95 yard as our 4th graders faced off against our 5th graders in the 1st ever 4th and 5th grade AmPark Playoff Game!  All of our owl-theletes should be very proud of themselves for a game well played, including our AmPark Cheerleaders who were there to cheer on the game.  Thank you to all of our families and students who came out to cheer along!

There is so much going on next week and in these last few weeks ahead, please remember that you can always refer to the AmPark Neighborhood School Events Calendar, here on our website.  From reminders about student non-attendance days (like next week, June 8th and 9th) to the Kindergarten and 5th Grade Stepping Up Ceremonies (June 22nd), to community engagement events (like Family Painting Night on June 20th), it's all there, at a glance!

Finally, a huge thank you to our AmPark PA for organizing and tirelessly staffing another successful Scholastic Book Fair!  Our students were a buzz about books all throughout this week and we are so grateful to our PA for bringing that literary joy.  Thank you all!

A Message from the AmPark Library

Dear AmPark Families,

It's been another great year of celebrating books and reading in the AmPark School Library! With 4,879 books on the shelves, students have done 6,645 checkouts this year! Thank you SO much for your support in helping students to keep track of and return their books. Please help students to return all books to the library by Wednesday, June 7.

If you're not sure if it's a school library book, just check the back cover for one of the barcodes below. You may even find library books from years past, and it would be great if you could send them back. We do not charge fines or ask you to replace books, but we do appreciate your help in finding lost books so that we don't need to replace them. If you find one over the summer, just hang onto it and return it next year. Thank you!!!

The students are very excited about our FREE book giveaway again this year. These are books which have been donated and/or which we no longer need in the school. These books should have no AmPark barcodes and are mostly paperbacks. The students are also writing their names with a sharpie on the books. They are for your child to keep at home. Students in K-5 will be able to choose 2 or more books in these last few weeks of school.

Thank you for encouraging your child/ren to read this summer! Children and adults can get a free library card and check out books and other materials at your neighborhood branch of the NY Public Library. You will just need to show proof of residency.

Have a wonderful summer!

Excited to Share All of the Birding News with Our AmPark Owls!
Our Feathered Friends After School Birding Club will meet for the last birding adventure for the season on Wednesday and we are twitterpated by how amazing this year's program has been.  Thanks to Christian Cooper, Michele Gennaoui, Caitlin, and the amazing Audubon volunteers, our students have had an unforgettable experience birdwatching in VCP.  We are proud to share that Christian Cooper's National Geographic show, The Extraordinary Birder, will air on National Geographic Wild and on Disney+ on June 13th! Also, if you're interested to read Chris' recent Op Ed in the New York Times, please check it out here.  We're grateful to Chris for all that he has brought to AmPark through Audubon and Feathered Friends and happy to say, "we knew him when!" : )
