Dear Families, We hope this letter finds you and your families safe and well on the brink of a spring weather weekend. AmPark and the Department of Education are united in speaking out against hate and violence. We stand in solidarity with our Asian-American community. Our most important tasks as educators are to develop empathetic citizens that value diversity and to create safe spaces for all students, staff, and families. Enrichment and Socialization: Casey and Matilda are offering a STEM enrichment program weekday mornings during the month of April for interested 2nd - 5th graders. If you are interested, the sign up form will be sent to families on Monday, March 22nd. Remote only students will not be tested unless their family reaches out to indicate otherwise. Our testing schedule will be shared following the break. We appreciate the proactivity of so many families in emailing me opt-out requests early to support planning.  New York Public Library Offerings for Families March 2021 NYPL is thrilled to share that we now have live storytimes on Google Hangout. Families can find a list of all live storytimes here. All of February, our pre-recorded online storytimes featured titles from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association’s 2020 Best of the Best Booklist. During March, all storytimes will feature nonfiction biographies of famous women. You can find them at nypl.org/storytime. New storytimes in Spanish are posted every Wednesday at 10 AM! It has been 100% VIRTUAL this year! Since our art teacher Ina was not doing grade wide lessons this year specifically for Square 1 Art, you can choose any art that you especially love to upload. Subject: 24 Hour School Building Closure Dear AmPark Neighborhood School Families: The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and the NYC Test + Trace Corps (T2) determined that two or more members of our school community have tested positive for COVID-19 within seven days of each other. As a result, the school building will close for an initial 24 hours to investigate the source(s) of transmission. Below you will find information on next steps to protect the health of you, your child, and the school community. This guidance reflects the expertise of DOHMH, T2, and the New York City Department of Education (DOE). What Happens Now? ● Effective 3/22/2021, the school building will close for an initial 24 hours. All students will transition to fully remote learning for this period. During this time, T2 and DOHMH will complete their investigation and the school will be cleaned and disinfected. ● All students and staff in the affected room(s) with the individual who tested positive are considered “close contacts” and have been notified of the need to quarantine for 10 days from their last contact with the person who tested positive. These students and staff will transition to fully remote teaching and learning for this period. ● Anyone with a positive COVID-19 test will not return to the building until they are no longer infectious. ● T2 and DOHMH will identify and notify any other close contacts in the building, who will also need to quarantine for 10 days. ● Based on the status of the investigation, I will communicate with you each night about the status of opening the next morning for everyone who is not a close contact.
