Hello AmPark Family,

While it’s not the official start of summer, Memorial Day Weekend can feel, to many, like the kick off to the warm weather season.  I hope that all of our families are able to spend a little bit of extra quality time (or perhaps can find some solace in alone time if that is what is needed!) this weekend engaging in activities that help you to feel refreshed.  I would also encourage families to find a moment for remembrance of the sentiment of the day.  You might consider participating in the “National Moment of Remembrance.”  This law was enacted in December of 2000 and is outlined further by the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs below:

The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation. As Moment of Remembrance founder Carmella LaSpada states: “It’s a way we can all help put the memorial back in Memorial Day.”

Our first One Book, One School event finished this Friday and we loved seeing our kiddos tuning in for the mystery reads of each chapter and subsequent book talk.  We are going to continue this initiative by reading the next title in the series… Rich a Dyamonde Daniel Book.

Are you worried that you missed book 1 and need to catch up?  Just look here on the website under Remote Learning Magic Read Alouds and all of the chapters are right there!

Reminders:
Family Resource Live Lunch Interest Survey
To further support families, we are putting together a series of workshops on a variety of requested topics.  To begin the series and best meet your needs we will have a Family Resource Live Lunch where Social Worker Mike Molloy, Guidance Counselor Ana Veras, and Parent Coordinator Niomi Vasquez will co-host an event highlighting the topics they will be leading.  From here, interested parents can sign up for further offerings.

The event will be held on Wednesday, May 27th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Zoom.  Please take this survey to indicate your interest in attending the initial event.
The NYCDOE Remote Learning Survey is still open! https://www.schools.nyc.gov/learn-at-home/remote-learning-survey
Learning at home has created an entirely new approach to education, and we want to hear how it has been working for you and your family. We are asking you to take a short survey to help us collect feedback about your experience with remote learning. The survey is:
  • Available in all DOE languages
  • Anonymous for all respondents
  • The same for all boroughs (survey is divided by borough to make it easier for you to identify your school name)
The results of the survey will help schools to continue to support families and students in the current learning environment.

With appreciation and in collaboration,
Kelly, Bonnie, & Francisco
