Dear AmPark Families, It was a joy to welcome some of our families in for the Meet and Greet event, as well as to kick off the school year with the virtual launch parties today. We hope our owls are feeling ready for the first day. Huge kudos to our paraprofessional team and supermom Audrey for setting up our entryways for our Homecoming arrival. We wish everyone a magical return! Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of September 11th. Our New Yorker hearts are united together as we remember all of those lost and all of those affected. Extraordinary strength was shown at that time, and continues to be shown as we face this historic reopening despite the tragedies of the pandemic. Health and Safety Updates The Chancellor recently shared that all visitors will need to show proof of vaccination upon entry. This mandate goes into effect for the first day of school, but will not apply to Pk and K drop-off on the first day, to registration procedures, or to emergency situations in the future. Non-essential visits are not permitted and phone calls or video conferences are the recommended means of meeting. Additional Chancellor’s Health and Safety Update: Family Update on health & safety (also attached and available on the Messages for Families page) - as a reminder, we will continue to update the 2021-22 School Year information on our family-facing website Students in grades 1 - 5 will be eligible for random Covid-19 testing in the school. Please ensure this consent is completed prior to the first day: The consent form for in-school testing. Families can also submit using NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) at schoolsaccount.nyc – we want to make it as easy as possible to complete this important step. Specials, Lunch, & Recess Given the vulnerability of our students and their ineligibility for vaccination at this time, all recommended precautions are being taken by our school staff to keep our students as safe as we can. This includes limiting movement in the building, as well as ensuring students remain in pods to the greatest extent possible. Preps will take place in the classroom until further notice, or outside. Students will also eat and play in the 95 yard and/or Classic Park. When this is not possible due to weather or staffing, students will eat lunch in classrooms and we may use the lunchroom on a rotating basis for one class at a time. Movement activities will be incorporated throughout the day, as will mask breaks. More information will be shared during Back to School Night events, and please feel free to reach out to Dany, Bonnie, or Kelly with any questions. While the circumstances are not ideal, our community has come up with creative solutions to ensure both safety and a rewarding and nurturing school experience. [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] As we will be having lunch and recess outside as much as possible, please send your child with a towel or small mat to sit on. We do have some extras to share, but would be most helpful if each child was able to bring their own. Early Dropoff 7:45 Arrival is only possible if it is used for families in dire need. Please help us to ensure safe social distancing by not sending your child if you do not need childcare. Breakfast will be served in the classroom and students that arrive between 7:45 and 8:15 will be monitored in the hallway prior to entering their classroom at the start of the day. It will unfortunately not be the same social breakfast that we were accustomed to in years past and we appreciate your understanding as we work to keep the students as safe as possible, while also accommodating the needs of our families. Dismissal Staggered dismissal will help us to avoid congestion. Please pick up promptly at your child's dismissal time and thank you! Hillman Entrance: PK 2:20 (after 1st week) K 2:25 1st 2:30 2nd 2:35 95 Yard: Grades 3 - 5 at 2:35 Chalk the Walk: Chalk is currently waiting outside of the school (right now!) if you would like to welcome our students and staff back over the weekend with uplifting messages!
