Dear AmPark Families,
The first official week of school brought some of our littlest learners into the building and allowed for our community to grow while in our remote spaces. Bringing students back in-person for the first time since March renewed our spirits. Connecting with all of the students remotely this week eased transitional worries and brought smiles to faces near and far. It was wonderful to see almost 100 voices joining us for the first Monday Sing of the year. Reopening was not completely without its frustrations, with zoom being at the top of the list, but we weathered it together thanks to your patience and understanding. We hope that this weekend will bring some needed rest for everyone after a week filled with such hard work. Families will be able to connect with one another during the first PA meeting of the year. Everyone who brings a child to AmPark is a member of our Parent Association. You will hear from some of the members of the executive board, as well as updates from Kelly and Bonnie. Our PA is working hard to plan community events in new and creative ways to keep us all safe and healthy and your involvement is so appreciated. Please also note the letters from the Chancellor's Office regarding the Discipline Code and the process for daily Health Screenings. We wish those celebrating Yom Kippur this weekend an easy fast. G’mar chatima tova Be well, Kelly and Bonnie Guidance for Attending on the Wrong Day The ABC schedule will take some getting used to for our students, staff, and families. Please refer to the cohort calendar regularly to ensure you are sending your child to school on the correct day. As per DOE guidance, students that arrive on the wrong day will not be permitted to join a class and must be picked up immediately for health precautions. To support this transition, staff members supporting arrival will have cohort lists at the gate to cross check days of attendance. Kindergarten and First Grade 1st In-Person Days We will welcome K-5 students for their first in-person days next week. Our Kindergarten and first grade students will meet at Classic Park on Van Cortlandt Park South for their first in-person day only. After their first day, arrival will be at the main entrance on Hillman Avenue. We will have markers to indicate 6 feet of social distancing, and also encourage you to bring a beach towel for your child if you have one for their comfort as well as for a physical approximation of what 6 feet looks like. The teachers will have a brief morning meeting with students and families at the park and then walk together to the building. Families will then say their goodbyes at the school gate. Health screenings will be conducted at the park on these days. Parent Coordinator Corner Hello Families! We would love to tap into some of our amazing parent helpers to support our early learners. We are planning a socially distanced book making event and asking for 4 - 5 volunteers to assemble paper books next week. Please send me an email if you would like to support. Hello all! My name is Gabriella Liscio. I have been a speech-language pathologist for the past four years. One of those years, I had the pleasure of working with the speech-language providers at Ampark and I am so happy to be back! I went to grad school at Mercy College and I currently live in Westchester NY. My goal this year is to provide as much guidance as possible and to make sure each student that I service receives the support they need. I look forward to meeting you all and I am excited to begin this school year with new colleagues, families, and students! Comments are closed.
