AmPark Owl Blog

Owl Blog for January 6th

1/6/2023

Happy Friday AmPark Family,

It's been a wonderful first week back with our Owls in 2023.  Some exciting things on the horizon this coming week...
  • Our Lehman Arts Gallery visits with resident artist Tijay, who has been working with our 3rd and 5th graders on some brilliant 3D sculptures, will culminate this week.  Pictures to follow as our AmPark artists add the finishing touches on their creations this week!
  • On a similar STEAM note, this week we will begin our first STEAM sessions for 1st and 4th grades with Salvadori Learning Center.  Our 1st graders will engage in an exploration of Animal Habitats, while our 4th graders explore the architectural wonders of Skyscrapers.  We cannot wait to see the projects that develop from this upcoming residency!
  • Need another peek at the AmPark Events Calendar for January?  It's posted here on our Calendar page for your reference and hope it helps with Fun Fridays (like Tie Dye day coming up this Friday and of course the answer to the all important question: 'What's for Lunch?'
  • Please check out below for some more exciting opportunities in and around our AmPark community in the week ahead.
Have a fabulous weekend Owls!

Calling All AmPark Birders!

As we plan into For the Birds and Feathered Friends this spring, our friends at the Audubon Society are sharing some truly AMAZING programming that they have upcoming, open to members of our AmPark community.  Check out their message and links below:

Audubon's Lecture Series is still underway, with our next lecture taking place in just a few days. On Monday, January 9th, we will be hosting our third lecture in the series, "The Welikia Project - Exploring the Historical Landscape Ecology of NYC's Five Boroughs" with Eric Sanderson.

You may already be familiar with Eric Sanderson and/or his work. He is the author of Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City, and works as a landscape ecologist for the Wildlife Conservation Society at the Bronx Zoo (whoo Bronx represent!). His talk on Monday will be a fascinating look at his new project, Welikia, which gives us a peak at what the landscape of the rest of NYC's boroughs looked like pre-European colonization.

You can find the rest of our upcoming lectures on the Lectures & Talks page of our website.
