Week of April 29th, 2022
Eid Mubarak to those celebrating and ending their Ramadan fast this weekend! As a reminder, schools are closed in observance of Eid on Monday, May 2nd.
May is a busy month! It is also Asian and Pacific Islander American Month, Jewish American History Month and Speech and Hearing Month!
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Use this Thank-a-Teacher tool, an additional resource for members of the community to send notes of gratitude to recognize teachers. Families can post photos on social media using #ThankATeacherNYC (in accordance with DOE Digital Citizenship and Social Media Guidelines).
Book of the Month: Zen Ties
Zen Ties by Jon J. Muth reminds us of Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. The author shares,” it is a story of compassion and friendship that reaffirms the importance of our ties to one another.”
Save the date for our first in-person School Sing in over two years! Please join us with your families for a Spring Sing on Thursday, June 16th from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. Josh will lead the lower elementary grades and the upper elementary grades in two performances for you and we will also have a sing-a-long and refreshments. This will be an outdoor event with more details to follow. Rain Date TBD.
Reminder for K and 5th Grade Families
Please send in your dues to Elvira as soon as possible for end of the year events! They are fast approaching and deposits are due. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Covid Tests and Covid Guidelines
Covid-19 at-home test kits were distributed again today. Please see the attached letter regarding testing. DOE Letterhead (nyc.gov)
Our school communities remain safe following spring recess. We thank you for using the COVID-19 home tests that were distributed earlier this month. As cases rise again across New York City, we will continue to provide every student with four COVID-19 home tests each week until further notice. Two tests are for use on your child and two are for a family member to use. Please use these tests every week, at least five days apart, unless experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Please note, if there is a classroom exposure your child will still receive two test kits and a notification letter from the Situation Room, and would then receive two more test kits during the week.
If you or anyone in your household tests positive, we are very pleased that safe, effective COVID-19 treatments, including anti-viral medications, are available for some individuals ages 12 and older who test positive. You can access these medications through your doctor or health care provider, or you can call 212-COVID19 to discuss treatment options with a medical professional. Treatment works best when it is started as soon as possible after symptoms start and can help reduce symptoms and help to avoid hospitalization. For more information, please see the COVID-19 Treatments Available document (Open external link) for additional information.
What should I do if my child tests positive on one of the tests?
