![]() From the Principal: Dear Families, It seems almost impossible that here we are, already in June, with many wonderful celebrations and events winding up even as our school year winds down. It has been an amazing year with so much to glow about here at AmPark. Before we bid Happy Summer to our taller, wiser, AmPark Owls there is an exciting June ahead... This Wednesday, June 5th, we are looking forward to our Career Fair for our 4th and 5th graders from 9:15 - 11:00. Thank you to the parents in our AmPark Family that have volunteered to share with our students about your vocations. Students will get to hear from a flight engineer, an orthopedist, an illustrator, an author/personal trainer, a college professor, police officers, a civil engineer, and a fashion stylist! We hope it’s an inspiring event for all. You’ve heard sneak peeks at our Monday Sings and now our Annual Spring Concert & Arts Festival is here! The celebration will be held from 6pm-8pm on June 11th. Ina will transform our first floor atrium into a museum of carefully curated masterworks created by your brilliant young artists. You can walk the gallery and head to the PS 95 auditorium where Josh will lead your singers and musicians in musical performances guaranteed to get your hands clapping and toes tapping. We can’t wait to see you all there! ![]() Once again, we welcome all to our Science Fair on June 19th. Classes will each be creating individual projects to present to one another and students are invited to create independent projects as well. For ideas and more information please click on the ‘Programs’ tab and then ‘AmPark Annual Science Fair’ in the dropdown menu. All end of year Report Cards will be coming home to families on June 21st. Class supply lists for fall will be posted here on the AmPark website, for your reference regarding preparations for the fall. Summer packets with teacher letters and back to school information will be emailed in mid to late August. Book of the Month: Imani’s Moon by JaNay Brown-Wood is a story about a child who wants to touch the moon. Although people doubt her ability to do so, she doesn’t give up. ![]() Wellness In The Schools News: The results for Wellness In The Schools awards are in and we are very proud to announce that AmPark has received a Gold Award for the 2019 Excellence in School Wellness Award presented by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene! This award places AmPark among a select group of schools in New York City working to create healthy environments for students and we could not do it without the support of all of you, our amazing families. We have to give a special shout out to our amazing WITS supermom, Audrey Routliffe, who has been such a champion for supporting wellness work at Ampark. Thank you Audrey! It was so wonderful to have so many of you join us for our Dinner & Dancing with WITS and Alvin Ailey night last week! Bonnie so enjoyed dancing alongside so many parents and students with our incredible Alvin Ailey artists! During our break between African and Hip Hop dancing, Chef Ricardo taught us all about the high sodium content in many pre-prepared foods and showed us just how much salt in actual salt cubes. Chef Marion, Chef Ricardo, and Chef Cathy made a healthy and beautiful pasta salad for all, which we certainly enjoyed after all that dancing! Our June Wellness Committee Meeting will be held on June 13th at 1:30. All are welcome to join us as we reflect on our year in Wellness and plan for an even healthier 2019-2020 school year. Please check out the June Alternative Lunch Menu here. Along the lines of wellness, we will be transitioning out of the “Grab and Go” breakfasts that have been available for late arriving students in the main office. June will be our pilot month to troubleshoot the challenges that these breakfasts have posed so that we can fully launch a better plan in September. The Grab and Go program has contributed to interruptions to learning time, challenges with students eating the provided breakfast, food waste, and a reduction to our overall Wellness score. Accommodations can be made for late bus students and for special circumstances. Please reach out to Angie with questions or concerns. If you need to bring your child to school late, please feed them or send them with a breakfast that can easily be eaten in the classroom. ![]() End of the Year Events: 6/4 Ramadan ends, Eid-al-Fitr - No School 6/5 4th and 5th Grade Career Day 6/6 Chancellor’s Conference Day - No School for students 6/10 Final Sing for 3rd-5th grades 6/11 No Students, Spring Concert & Arts Festival @ 6pm 6/13 K-4 Field Day & 5th Grade trip to Club Getaway 6/19 AmPark’s Annual Science Fair 6/20 PK, K, 1 Rec Day 6/21 2, 3 Rec Day 6/25 4, 5 Rec Day 6/21 5th Grade Party 6/24 5th Grade Moving Up 6/21 Family Tea/PA Recap 6/26 Last Day of School ½ Day 6/27 Incoming PK and K Social 11/1/2020 10:04:04 pm
Absolutely right, 2019 was one of the wonderful years that we enjoyed a lot but what happens to the 2020. I am wishing I could replace my life into the 2019 because it was the year without any pandemic. Comments are closed.
